Dark Ballet: on Location
The beautiful and haunting video for Dark Ballet was filmed on location in two historical sites in Portugal.
The stake scene was shot at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cape Espichel (Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel), a few miles South to Lisbon.
The Monastery of Batalha (Mosteiro da Batalha) – literally the Monastery of the Battle – in the district of Leiria, a World Heritage site, was the set of the church and cloister scenes.
Interestingly, the octagonal structure that servers as the location of the church scenes and the Dark Ballet itself is an incomplete building – as Capelas Imperfeitas (The Unfinished Chapels).
Commissioned by King Edward of Portugal in the XV Century as a mausoleum, the octagonal rotunda was never completed and didn’t receive a roof, therefore today is an outdoor site.
The Dark Ballet video is directed by Emmanuel Adjei with Lisbon-based production company Ready to shoot.
