Tribe Lists – Music Stuff 2017
2017 is almost over and here we are again with our usual year end review/recap lists of the must have Madonna related items that collectors should have not missed.
With today’s top ten list we deal with the music related stuff and it’s seems we’re back in the 80’s and 90’s for the massive presence of vinyl in this list.
Let’s start with the limited Red Vinyl pressing of Like A Prayer and the Blue Vinyl pressing of True Blue. Originally released in October 2016 in limited quantities at Sainsbury’s food stores in the UK, they quicky sold out, and in just a matter of days resellers were asking ridiculous prices for them on Ebay. But… quicky forwarding to March 2017… French record shop Fnac and other selected online retailers gave fans a second chance to get these same vinyls (some had even the same Sainsbury’s sticker) at a fair price.
Then on April 22nd for Record Store Day, we got another exclusive Madonna vinyl. Following the success of the previous year’s Pink Vinyl Edition of a Japanese EP of Like A Virgin, Warner stayed in the “Virgin Years” and released Madonna Dance Mix, which is the reissue of another EP originally an exclusive release for Argentina in late 1985 and later released in 1986 in other South American countries.
Madonna Dance Mix contains her ground-breaking hit Into The Groove off Desperately Seeking Susan, the Nile Rodgers extended dance mix of Angel, the Jellybean Extended Version of Material Girl and Holiday. Again, Dance Mix is a Record Store Day 2017 exclusive and said to be limited to 8000 pieces worldwide.
September 2017 sees the release of the much awaited Rebel Heart Tour on DVD and Blu-Ray. The full show (edited with footage literally taken from EVERY single show and country) a featurette of Tears Of A Clown (featuring intimate and never seen before renditions of Borderline and Don’t Tell Me) and a Bonus video of a performance of Like A Prayer are the main course on this plate. Universal Music has also added an Audio CD release of the live songs, available in two editions; a single cd with a selection of songs is packed with either the dvd or the blu ray. A double audio CD with all the live songs plus a bonus, Like A Prayer is also for sale separately.
A few days later in September die hard fans learned they also HAD to get the Japanese edition of the Blu Ray or DVD, as it contained an EXCLUSIVE bonus song. The lovely rendition of Take A Bow that Madonna performed in one of the shows in Japan.
And while in September, while watching the new Blu-Ray, we also had the chance to get the Official 2018 Calendar, made by Danilo and squared shaped as a vinyl cover, so basically it fits perfectly in this article!
Last, but not least are two more vinyl released that ended up this year. Originally released like the previous two in the Sainsbury’s stores in October but later available from Fnac, Amazon and other retailers from mid December are the Clear Vinyl of Like A Virgin and Candy Blue Vinyl of Ray Of Light (Double Discs)
One shouldn’t be a fortune teller to foresee more Madonna albums released on this format next year… but that’s it for our music list for 2017:

- True Blue – Blue Vinyl (Fnac release)
