Seymour Stein<\/strong>, co-founder of Sire Records, former vice president at Warner Bros. Records and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member has died yesterday morning in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

His daughter Mandy Stein said in a statement:<\/p>\n

I grew up surrounded by music. I didn\u2019t have the most conventional upbringing, but I wouldn\u2019t change my life and my relationship with my dad for anything, and he was a loving and caring grandfather who took pleasure in every moment with his three granddaughters. He gave me the ultimate soundtrack, as well as his wicked sense of humor. I am beyond grateful for every minute our family spent with him, and that the music he brought to the world impacted so many people\u2019s lives in a positive way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Seymour Stein<\/strong> signed music legends such as Madonna<\/strong> and The Ramones at Sire Records<\/strong>. The story behind Madonna’s contract is legendary; Stein wrote about that night at Lenox Hill Hospital<\/strong> when he met the soon-to-be Queen of Pop for the first time in his 2018 book, Siren Song<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Today we hear it straight from her, in a lenghty post on Instagram<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Seymour Stein Has Left Us! I need to catch my breath.
\nHe Was one of the most influential Men in my Life!! He changed and Shaped my world. I must Explain.<\/p>\n

I stalked a DJ named Mark Kamin- for a year at a club called Danceteria! In the Early 80\u2019s. He finally agreed to play my demo of a song called \u201cEverybody\u201d on a Saturday night.
\nThe Club was packed. An A&R man from SIRE records was there\u2014Michael Rosenblatt.
\nHe heard the music and asked me if he could bring me to meet his boss Seymour Stein.
\nI Couldn\u2019t get the words \u201cHell Yes\u201d! out of my mouth fast enough!<\/p>\n

Unfortunately Seymour was in the hospital for a Heart Ailment!
\nI didn\u2019t care. Lets Goooooo! When I met him he was laying in a hospital bed wearing his boxer shorts and a wife beater!
\nHe had a cannula up his nose and a saline Drip in his arm! He was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
\nI was carrying my giant boombox ready to play My cassette for him immediately! He smiled and laughed when he saw me and asked me if I was related to the Virgin Mary!! Hahahhahahaa. I knew we would hit it off. I played him the song a few times. He signed me to his record label that day!!
\nThis moment changed the course of my Life Forever. And was the beginning of my journey as a Musical Artist. Not only did Seymour hear me but he Saw me and my Potential! For this I will be eternally grateful!
\nI am weeping as I write this down. Words cannot describe how I felt at this moment after years of grinding and being broke and getting every door slammed in my face.<\/p>\n

Anyone who knew Seymour knew about his passion for music and his impeccable taste. He had an Ear like no other!
\nHe was Intense -Wickedly Funny-a little bit Crazy And Deeply intuitive.
\nDearest Seymour you will never be forgotten!! Thank You! Thank you Thank you! 🙏🏼 💙. . Shine on!!!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
