Last night’s show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music started with a technical glitch in the projections department.

The Madame X show usually starts with a pre-recorded announcement with Madonna asking not to use electronic devices during the show, and last night was no exception. An intro follows, an elaborate choreography were a typist and a dancer interact with images and text projected on the screen. At the beginning of last night’s show something didn’t work (but it was quickly fixed).

Longtime fan Jonluvsmaddy reported on the Icon forum and on Twitter:

The projections were not on in the opening. The show started as normal with her announcement. The typist and the dancer came on stage and they started their thing with sound, lights, and no projection. So no words on screen and no visible gunshots.

I whispered to my partner that she might stop the show as there really is no way to proceed without the projections. She sang the whole opening verse and then turned upstage, lay down, and as the singers do the We’ve lost God Control bit, she said loudly and firmly – “Where are the projections?!” And then they came on with the closeup of the machine gun. No children’s choir. No caskets. No church. She never mentioned it again and everything else was ok.

For those who love this kind of details, the ticket stub last night was in yet another colour they didn’t use before: a dark shade of pink.
