Madonna Teams Up with Boy Smells for two New Candles
Madonna has teamed up with Boy Smells – a queer-owned and operated fragrance company based in Los Angeles – for a new two-candle collection inspired by one of her most iconic albums and her most recent record.
Available to order as limited editions from Madonna’s official US store and from Boy Smells’ own online shop, Like a Prayer is a woody/smoky scent smelling like cade juniper, oud resin and cedar smoke – and feeling like submitting to pleasure – while Confessions is a floral/chypré candle – “a rose with a pulse” – that smells like raspberry, damascus rose and white santal and feels like love without words.
Perfumer Jerome Epinette explains:
For Like a Prayer, I wanted the fragrance to feel instantly warm, smoky and captivating. Incense and cade juniper create an atmospheric opening, melting into oud resin, velvet amber and rich woods. Agarwood and cedar smoke give it a deep, lingering finish, with a nod to the provocative mystique of the iconic song.
With Confessions, I wanted to play with contrasts… something fruity and floral, but with a darker, smoky edge. Raspberry brings a juicy brightness to rich damascus rose, while dark patchouli and white santal add warmth and sensuality. It’s bold, addictive and a little unexpected, capturing the energy of Madonna.
Both candles are housed in a vessel featuring images personally selected by Madonna – an previously unseen 1989 portrait by Herb Ritts for Like a Prayer and a picture by Ricardo Gomes for Confessions, and can also be purchased as a duo.
