I can be whoever I wanna be
Madonna is the cover star of the Summer 2026 issue of Interview. The magazine published today their cover story and a long chat with Mel Ottenberg where Madonna basically answers any question you may have about what she’s been busy with in the past few years, reveals the name of another artist featuring on one of the Confessions II tracks and breaking the news of a song that’s not on the record she wrote together with Arca and Stuart Price. Click here to check it out.
For her eleventh cover story with the magazine – the most of any star in Interview’s 57 year history – Madonna transformed into Dee Dee, a vivacious, hard-living broad with big hair, endless prosecco, and The Stooges turned way up. The next afternoon at her London home, after an early listen to her new album Confessions II, M engaged Interview EIC and lifelong fan Mel Ottenbergin a 90-minute conversation on faith, cinema, making music, nutritional yeast, hot guys and more.
Madonna is the blueprint for pop superstardom – Interview explains – a cultural force whose influence can be traced through every era of modern celebrity. More than four decades into her career, she remains a reminder that the next reinvention, the next great idea, and the next moment are always within reach.
More than 20 years after Confessions on a Dance Floor once again transformed the club into her kingdom, Madonna is bringing the party back where it belongs. With Confessions II, the Queen of Pop enters a new moment shaped by the sweat and spectacle that has defined her career since the very beginning.
There were moments that night when I felt star power on a level I had never experienced before, if that is possible… The next afternoon, I went to M’s home for round two: a 90-minute gab sesh after hearing the upcoming album, Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II. As a Frida Kahlo portrait glared protectively at me over Madonna’s shoulder, we talked past, present, future, prayer, dicks, nutritional yeast, and more…
