Confessions II – The Credits
The songwriting and production credits on Confessions II are a mix of legendary house and electronic music pioneers, contemporary hitmakers, and deeply personal family members.
The core duo is composed of course by Madonna herself together with Stuart Price. Madonna and Price are also the executive producers of the album.
Madonna is credited as a co-writer in every track, and 6 tracks out of 16 are composed entirely by Madonna & Stuart Price together: Good For The Soul, One Step Away, Everything, Love Sensation, Love Without Words and Fragile.
Because this album relies heavily on classic dance samples and house music legacy, several songwriters are credited due to legal samples and interpolations. The sampling credits also include two unexpected authors.
Samples and Interpolations: House Legends & More
- Lil’ Louis (Marvin L. Burns), credited because I Feel So Free contains elements from his iconic Chicago house anthem, French Kiss (1989)
- Inner City (Kevin Saunderson, Roy Holman, & Shanna Jackson) score a credit in Bring Your Love as the song contains an interpolation of their Detroit house classic Good Life (1988)
- Army of Lovers (O. Hakansson/T. Norell/A. Hansson/A. Bard/P. Thyren): My Sins Are My Savior contains an interpolation of the fourth single from their debut album, My Army of Lovers (1990)
- Lou Reed is credited in Danceteria because the song contains an interpolation of his classic hit, Walk on the Wild Side (1972)
- Erik Satie: the nineteenth-century French classical composer is credited posthumously on Betrayal for the interpolation with his Gnossienne no. 1
Contemporary Co-Writers and Feat.
- Andrew Watt and Cirkut (Henry Walter) are the high-profile pop masterminds who were brought in for the high-energy tracks Danceteria and L.E.S. Girl
- Tainy (Marco Masis) and Feid (Salomón Villada Hoyos) are the reggaeton giants who co-wrote and shaped the global sound of Read My Lips
- Martin Garrix (Martijn Garritsen) and UPSAHL (Taylor Upsahl) co-wrote of the EDM-inspired track Bizarre working with Swedish producers Osrin (Oskar Rindborg) and Wilhelm Börjesson. He is also a performing artist in the song.
- Stromae (Paul Van Haver) co-wrote the darker, synth-pop track My Sins Are My Savior, which he also features in as a performer
- Lourdes “Lola” Leon co-wrote and performed The Test together with her mother Madonna
- Harloe (Jessica Ashley Karpov) and Lanita Smith, the accomplished LA-based songwriters who were brought in to add vocal structures and gospel-infused house textures to School
- Estere & Stella, Madonna’s youngest daughter, perform in Fragile
- Stuart Price provides backing vocals to Love Sensation
