Never Can Say Goodbye
With her final date on April 26th, Madonna wrapped her five-nights residency in Mexico City, the final stop of the North American leg of The Celebration Tour.
Once the very last show overall, until the special concert in Rio was announced, the last night in Mexico was actually a sort of farewell, and Madonna herself took to her Instagram to thank her fans not only in Mexico but all over the World.
We did it together!! 80 shows!
As we previously reported, the Mexican shows were filmed on several nights: the first “official” recording took place on the third show with handled cameras used on both Madonna and the crowd; show 4 and 5 were filmed using hard cameras, cranes, spider and drone cams. The Mexican audience has been awesome and arguably the best of the tour at this point (it will be hard to beat this one, Rio).
Rain returned to the show setlist on the second night and we love this choice for the concert film.
Mercy James, David Banda, Stella and Estere took to their social media to ask the audience to learn a special choreo themed to L-U-V Madonna – Y-O-U You Wanna?, to be performed during the show’s final number.
For the records, Stuart Price warmed up the audience on the first three nights and Blond:ish served on show no.4. Mexican comedian Guillermo Rodriguez of Jimmy Kimmel Live! fame was the ballroom guest judge on the first show, followed by Madonna’s co-star on the cover of Re-Edition magazine Albert Guerra, Mexican influencer Wendy Guevara, NYC drag spitfire Pixie Aventura and the one and only Frida Kahlo – Salma Hayek – on the final night. Madonna wrote on Instagram:
The last show of the tour ended in Mexico City in the most magical way. Frida Kahlo came to visit and made me the happiest girl in the world.!
Not only was my show complete in Mexico- but my entire artistic career!!
For she has always been my Eternal Muse Cheering me on through the good times and the bad.
Thank You Salma Hayek for making it possible.
Madonna left Mexico City earlier today and has now landed in Rio de Janeiro for her special show on Copacabana Beach next Saturday, May 4th.
