Madonna Returns to the UK Top 10
The Official Charts Company company announced today that Madonna made her return to the UK Top 10 with Popular. The song marks th Queen of Pop’s 64 single to enter the chart, as well as The Weeknd’s 16th, and the first for Playboi Carti.
Popular by The Weeknd, featuring Madonna and Playboi Carti, completes a long and winding road to the Official Singles Chart Top 10 today, jumping up four places to #10. The track – originally included in the soundtrack for The Weeknd’s divisive HBO dramedy The Idol – has proved to the definition of a slowburn; spending a total of 12 weeks inside the wider UK Top 40 before finally breaking into the upper echelons of the chart.
Proving that she is still the undisputed Queen of Pop now more than four decades into her world-straddling career, Popular returns Madonna to the Top 10 for the first time in 15 years, and becomes her record-extending 64th UK Top 10 hit. With this, Madonna extends her own record as the female artist with the most UK Top 10s in Official Singles Chart history.
Madonna‘s last Top 10 entry was her 2009 single Celebration, that peaked at #3, while her first one was Holiday, which reached #6 in 1984. This means that there is a gap of 40 years in between Madonna’s first UK Top 10, and her latest. Visit officialcharts.com for the complete list.
