Happy Dirty Thirty, Erotica!
Madonna released her fifth studio album 30 years ago today, on October 20, 1992, by Maverick and Sire Records.
Erotica, considered by many Madonna’s most important musical work, followed the immense success of her first greatest hits album, The Immaculate Collection and was released the day before her first printed publication, the SEX book.
A milestone in the 40 years spanning career of the Queen of Pop, Erotica also marked her first release under Maverick Records, her own multimedia entertainment company. Due to its explicit lyrics, it was also the first Madonna album to feature the Parental Advisory label on the cover.
Today Madonna is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Erotica releasing the Bad Girl/Fever EP and the Erotica Remixes on the digital platforms, the remastered HQ videos of Erotica and Bad Girl on YouTube, and some new merchandise, with more to come.
The picture disc for the album’s first single, featuring a colorized version of the famous “toe sucking” photo from the SEX book that was cancelled unexpectedly just ahead of release, as the artwork was considered too explicit for in-store display back then, will be released tomorrow, October 21.
