“I’m going to speak in my british accent now”
Madame X brought her theatre show to a packed London Palladium tonight, and what a fantastic one it was.
Fans were advised by email from Ticketmaster that doors were opening at 6:30 PM with Madonna due on stage at 8:30. The doors opened in perfect time, and those who were a bit skeptical and guessed that 8:30 PM was the starting time of the pre-show acoustic performance by members of the Madame X band were surprised to see the Queen hit the stage at 8:46 PM.
The pre-show took actually place to a largely empty venue, with fans still checking in or doing what seems a favorite of the British audience before (and even during) the show: spending time at the bar. The Madonna songs included in the acoustic set were again Secret, Don’t Tell Me, Who’s That Girl and Like a Virgin.
The show ended a couple of minutes after 11 PM. No new variations to report, Sodade was again taken off the setlist after making a comeback for the Lisbon shows and Crave wasn’t performed.
Madonna looked happy to perform in London, she was rathe chatty and once again her voice was on fire.
“How happy I am to have made it this far,” she said about performing in London, which she called “my second home.”
A few tweaks in the costume department, mainly about Madonna’s shoes that have been adjusted to help her with her injuries. She mentioned one time she is suffering because of her knee and her hip.
The Polaroid selfie moment was a bit of an eye opener.
Madonna was chatting to one guy on the front row negotiating the amount, when another guy got up on the stage (she didn’t notice him and security didn’t stop him) and he walked right up to her and tapped her on the shoulder and offered her a higher amount. She chatted to him for a few seconds and then told him to get off her stage. In the end the selfie went for £1,500 in the end to Nat from Bangkok, although some spotted the selfie still in Madonna’s hands when she moved off from the front of the stage.
For the beer chat Madonna sat next to an Italian guy named Giampiero who was very emotional and barely spoke. Madonna said she gets messy too when she is nervous and did the most of the chat, which was a bit shorter than usual.
She appeared to be in a great mood – chatting and joking lots with the audience – but she kept stopping herself and saying “I have to get on with the show, there’s an iron curtain coming down on me later, Westminster council have made it very clear to me that I need to finish on time”.
At one point she said – in a very british accent – “I’m going to speak in my british accent now”. She added that when she lived here everyone told her she had a British accent, but she didn’t really think that she did. And now when she looks back at old interviews from that time “I’m like oh my god, how you could let me do that to myself… I blame Guy, he forced me”…. at which point everybody booed (and she said “ohhhh why are you booing?”)!
Another tiny moment to report was a small malfunction in the staircase set that is rotating in circles during Extreme Occident. When the two sets of bigger stairs hit each other at an angle closing the view of Madonna’s exit one metallic fixture detached and fell on the floor and remained unnoticed until Madonna herself spotted it during Come Alive. She managed to take it off from the stage and passed it to one of her backing singer right before the main choreography for the song’s final took place.
The ticket stub last night was green – and much smaller than the ones used in Lisbon.
