Happy 35 Anniversary, Desperately Seeking Susan!
Desperately Seeking Susan was released on this day 35 years ago.
Directed by Susan Seidelman and starring Rosanna Arquette and Madonna, Desperately Seeking Susan was Madonna’s first major screen role and one of her best performances ever.
The movie also provided us with the original demo of Into the Groove, as Madonna recorded the song in a slightly more polished version for the soundtrack album but the original demo was featured in the movie instead.
Vulture.com recently sat with the movie’s co-star Rosanna Arquette to ask her all about Susan. Check out their interview here. Here’s a small excerpt:
Did you and Madonna get close during filming?
We were very bonded during the movie. Very close during the making of the film. We’ve kept in touch through the years. I have lost touch with her, but a few years ago I went to Madonna’s Oscar party with Laura Dern, and saw her for a minute. The year Guillermo del Toro wonGuillermo del Toro won Best Director in 2018.. I haven’t seen her since, though. I missed her shows. I wanted to go, but I was out of town.
