“Crave” becomes Madonna’s highest peak in Adult Contemporary since 1998
The success of Crave in the Billboard Adult Contemporary adds another positive mark to the chart history of Madonna’s critically acclaimed Madame X.
In the Billboard charts for the week of 13 July, 2019, Crave moves up to No. 13, becoming Madonna’s highest peak in Adult Contemporary since Frozen hit No. 8 on the 16 May 1998.
This is the 6th week in the chart for the Madonna and Swae Lee song, that was at No. 14 last week.
Focusing on the most recent Madonna visits to the higher part of the chart, Crave recently surpassed Ghosttown – that peaked at No. 18 in 2015 – and is now one spot ahead of The Power of Good-bye, that peaked at No.14 in 1999.
Madonna has a total of 37 songs in Adult Contemporary, including 15 Top 10 hits and 5 No. 1s.
The chart is not certainly an indication of mainstream commercial success, but the quality of the Madonna songs that made it through the years is just another proof – if any needed – that Crave is a fantastic fine piece of pop writing and executing, up there with the Queen’s best ones including Take a Bow, I’ll Remember, Cherish, Live to Tell, Secret, Crazy for You, True Blue, Rain, Frozen and Open Your Heart, to name a few.
On its 4th week on Adult Pop Songs – the Billboard chart the most popular adult top 40 as based on radio airplay detections measured by Nielsen – Crave moves down to No. 38 after peaking at No. 36 last week.
