Lana Del Rey covers “You Must Love Me” for Lloyd Webber’s Platinum Collection
The legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber will celebrate his 70th birthday releasing Unmasked: The Platinum Collection, a new personally curated and overseen album which includes classics from his earliest compositions through his most recent work.
One of the most successful composers of the modern era, Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s repertoire includes some of the world’s most celebrated shows: Sunset Boulevard, Cats, Aspects Of Love, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Starlight Express, The Phantom of The Opera, School of Rock, Love Never Dies and, of course, Evita, the musical turned into a big screen masterpiece by Alan Parker in 1996, starring Madonna, Jonathan Pryce and Antonio Banderas.
Of the new album, Lloyd Webber says:
I owe everyone involved in putting this compilation together a huge thank you. A vast amount of thought has evidently gone into selecting tracks from my almost fifty year old career. This compilation brings back a heap of memories – it has made this ancient composer very happy. I particularly love the new tracks and of course I love the orchestral suites. There’s nothing a composer likes more than hearing their melodies played by a cracking orchestra.
Available in 2 CD and 4 CD editions on 16 March through UMC/Polydor, Unmasked: The Platinum Collection also features three newly recorded songs: a cover of Memory, from Cats, performed by Nicole Scherzinger, Light at the End of the Tunnel from Starlight Express sung by Gregory Porter and Lana Del Rey‘s cover of You Must Be Love, the Golden Globe and Oscar winning song written in 1996 by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for Madonna and the film adaptation of Evita.
Madonna herself is also featured in this new collection with two songs from the Evita soundtrack, Oh What A Circus and Another Suitcase In Another Hall. More songs from Evita are Buenos Aires performed by the Glee Cast, the original Don’t Cry For Me Argentina by Julie Covington, Rainbow High by Elaine Paige and the Original London Cast, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elena Roger, Philip Quast and the Original Evita Cast performing I’d Be Surprisingly Good For You.
