Good-Bye Dear Sweet Tim
We’re very sad to report the tragic loss of Swedish DJ and producer Tim Bergling aka Avicii, who has died in Muscat, Oman, at the age of 28. His representative said in a statement:
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.
He was found dead in Muscat, Oman, this Friday afternoon local time, 20 April.
The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.
Fans are familiar with Avicii for his collaboration with Madonna, which started with a remix for Girl Gone Wild from the MDNA album, continued when Tim opened several MDNA Tour dates in 2012, and went on with the two co-writing and co-producing some of the highlights from Rebel Heart, including Devil Pray, Heartbreakcity, Wash All Over Me, Messiah, Borrowed Time, Addicted as well as the album’s title track. He was the first producer for the new album mentioned by Madonna in a tweet in March 2014.
A documentary about Tim’s career – Avicii: True Stories – was released in fall 2017, chronicling his retirement from touring and his health struggles. In an interview with Rolling Stone last year Avicii had the chance to talk about his collaboration with Madonna on Rebel Heart:
I’d love to work with her again, but that was right when I was busiest, and I think she might have been disappointed in me for not being able to put in as much time as she wanted. A lot of things start suffering when you don’t have the energy or time to do things properly. You think you can get away with it, but the quality suffers.
Madonna of course was among those who took to the internet to share their feelings about Tim passing away today; she wrote:
So Sad……. So Tragic. Good Bye Dear Sweet Tim. 💙 Gone too Soon.
Our sincere condolences to Tim’s family, friends and all the EDC community. His music will keep inspiring all of us.
