Queen of Empire State
A true icon of the New York City skyline, the Empire State Building’s tower lights have maintained a tradition of changing colour to recognize various occasions and organizations throughout the year – from signature white to the reds and blues of the US flag, to rainbow, pink, and much more.
Set in 1976, the system had a major upgrade in 2012, when a new computer driven LED light system capable of displaying 16 million colors, which can change instantaneously was installed.
Last night, the light show took on a bit different fashion when photography from some of Harper’s Bazaar‘s most iconic shoots and cultural moments were projected on the north side of the tower above 34th Street from 8:30PM to midnight, celebrating the magazine’s 150th anniversary.
The images, presented in partnership with Tiffany & Co., included unforgettable covers and stunning editorials – like Luigi and Iango‘s 150th anniversary issue photoset and Mondino‘s iconic 1990 cover shoot.
