Roman Madonna
An image of our immaculate Madonna appeared this morning in the streets of Rome, in one of those vintage altars known as “edicola” near the Vatican. The funny and entertaining provocation of an unknown street artist is calling Madonna fans from all over the city.
Fans are gathering at small Via di Panico to take a picture of the Madonna image before it is taken down.
These images of the “other” Madonna are quite common in the historic centre of Rome, they are usually very old paintings or frescos, coming from an ancient radition started in the 13th century, framed by decorated white marble. In this particular case, the frame was empty as the vintage Madonna was taken away to be restored in 2000 but never came back. So no harm done!
