Nashville was lit!
What a night! Madonna made her Nashville debut at the at Bridgestone Arena last night and the Rebel Hearts from Tennessee – and lots of fans from all over the world who travelled to Nashville to catch one of the last tour dates in North America – were treated with Don’t Tell Me, a cool rendition of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire during the Music break, and a few acapella lines of Beautiful Stranger right after La Vie en Rose!
Madonna honored Martin Luther King, Jr. during her speech and said:
I can’t get through this night without talking about Martin Luther King. Today is a very special day honoring an extraordinary human being. It seems like heroes like Martin Luther King are so few and far between, and we seem to be lacking in them in our lives these days. I pray that more and more people will have the courage to stand up and fight for what they believe in.
Madonna also had a few more words about the drunk-on-stage nonsense:
This is me sober. I know there’s been reports that I’ve been falling down drunk on the stage. Y’all wish I could dance in six-inch heels and be drunk.
When she spotted Nashville rocker Jack White in the audience Madonna told him:
Don’t be laid back, just cause you’re famous. I’m famous too, you know. And I get excited when I see people I like. But maybe you don’t like me?
White was being shown on the video screens blewing Madonna a kiss, and she was like:
Thank you. Some kind of acknowledgement.
During the Music break, Madonna started singing Ring of Fire:
You guys have to help me sing it, O.K.? I’m from Michigan….You have to understand, I did not rehearse this. It just came into my head underneath the stage a couple of minutes ago.
The Rebel Heart Tour now moves to Atlanta, Georgia where Madonna will perform tomorrow, January 20.
