Madonna: “Media backlash following adoption of kids in Malawi “crashed me”
“My manager told me my career is over” following ‘Like A Virgin’, MTV Video Music Awards performance, due to the fact her butt was showing.
Madonna said her dad never talked to them about the death of her mom, announced engagement to their former house keeper while they were still in mourning.
“I’ve always felt like an outsider growing up.”
“I saw my future as a professional dancer, never as a singer”; “My teacher encouraged me to go to New York.”
Trip to NYC was my first plane ride, first taxi ride. Was “dropped off in Times Square with $35 in my pocket.”
“All the things I like are dangerous”, referring to horse riding, skiing.
I was fired from Dunkin’ Donuts after one week, Was also fired from the Russian Tea room for wearing fishnets.
“I was raped during my first year in NYC.” Too humiliating, Madonna says referring to the fact she did not press charges following rape.
Madonna confirms rehearsal for the tour is under way in Brooklyn.
Madonna confirms she will perform next week (on Ellen).

Madonna on Howard Stern – “I’m not a drug person”, confirms she took ecstasy in the 80s, “I felt so ill, It wasn’t worth’ it she said. ‘I don’t do drugs now, I don’t smoke and don’t like being stoned.”
“I wrote that song (Devil’s Pray) in a couple of hours.”
“‘Material Girl’ was the song that irritated me the most.”
Producers (Nile Rodgers among them) of ‘Like A Virgin’ sent her other songs, she didn’t like any of them.
When asked what was the most you spent on a piece of art she said a Francis Bacon painting.
“I wrote ‘Vogue’ in a couple of hours, after Warren (Beatty) asked me to write a song for Dick Tracy.” Said he was a great lover.
Was Warren (Beatty) your best lover? “Oh gosh I’m not going to answer that,” she said.
Ghosttown should be the next single Stern said, “it is,” Madonna replies .
Madonna says she is shooting the video for Ghosttown next week.
Who was the great love of your life? “I can’t say.”
When asked if she wrote the song from the eyes of ‘Joan of Arc’ Madonna said “It’s me wishing I could be as strong as Joan Of Arc was, I am not willing to die for my causes.”
“I threw a tantrum once” (after Guy Ritchie had a late dinner with an actress), saying she can be insecure and jealous in relationships.
“No one saw me fall (during Brit performance) I was thinking ‘oh thanks guys’ First thing came to my head, ‘I have to start this all over again’.”
About Brits fall: “I was singing what I was going through.” “I was only angry at myself.”
“Angels were watching over me, I had no scratches or bruises following Brits fall, Yes I do believe in angels.”
