”Thank you for welcoming me here”

Madonna met Malawi President Peter Mutharika today, the third day of her new visit to the African country. They had a closed-door chat but the local media reports on the way the two greeted each other before the meeting started.

President Mutharika welcomed her saying:

Let me thank you for bringing David and Mercy to Malawi

Madonna greeted Mutharika mentioning his late older brother Bingu, who passed away in 2012:

Thank you for welcoming me here. I was a big fan of your brother; he was very kind to us.

After the meeting Madonna also got to know the First Lady of Malawi, Gertrude Hendrina Mutharika.

The Official Malawi Government issued this press release after the double meeting:

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and First Lady Getrude Mutharika today held separate private talks with American pop star Madonna at Kamuzu Palace.
The President thanked Madonna for her efforts to improve education standards in the country and her project to construct a paediatric surgery and intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
Mutharika also called on Madonna to encourage her two adopted Malawian children David and Mercy to work hard in their education.

After meeting the President, First Lady Getrude Mutharika briefed Madonna on her Beautify Malawi Trust.
