Materials of the girl
“If the shoe fits, then wear them in good health.”
This is what Madonna’s longtime publicist Liz Rosenberg replied to Richard Johnson from the New York Post, who asked her about an upcoming auction of memorabilia which, according to the press release, include the latex mask, waspie, gloves, bra and panties worn with Katy Perry for their V Magazine photoshoot.
“I do not believe any of what is being auctioned off was in Madonnas possession,” the Validator explains. “Designers often supply clothes for shoots that are then returned to the designers.”
Liz also added that Madonna, who is currently in Europe, is unaware that the auction is taking place.
MadonnaTribe’s longtime readers who read about the auction – which is described as “the largest collection of Madonna memorabilia from her personal and professional life” ever to go under the hammer – may have recognized a few pieces that were on display at “Simply Madonna – Materials of the girl” at the Old Truman Brewery in London back in 2009, and that were part of a few more renditions of the same exhibition around the world over the past few years.
Items include the Marilyn Monroe inspired red dress, stole and jewelry worn in the Material Girl video, over thirty of Madonnas period clothing pieces from Evita along with accessories and jewelry from the film, costumes from A League of Their Own, The Next Best Thing, and the “Music” and “American Pie” videoclips.

It is not the first time – and probably won’t be the last – that Madonna’s name, image and icon appeal is used to attract collectors and investors; for sure, the day Madonna decides to open her own vaults and create her own costume exhibition, we will have the real deal.
