Encyclopedia Madonnica 20th Anniversary Edition
A message from our friend Matthew Rettenmund:
It’s been almost 20 years since I published “Encyclopedia Madonnica“, so what better time to create a sequel? I’m using Kickstarter to fund a self-published follow-up, one I want to be all-inclusive of Madonna’s life and career. That means I’ll have to overhaul existing entries as well as write new ones to cover (almost) everything she’s been up to for the past two decades.
Books can’t take the place of up-to-the-minute Web sites like MadonnaTribe, and the first edition was kind of like a Google search of Madonna spiced up with my own take on things. But I think a sequel in 2015 (planned spring publication) can instead serve as a sort of record of all the things we, as fans, have cherished about Madonna, and all the things society has loved, hated or just plain noticed about her. It says something about our culture that Madonna’s grills were such a big deal…but what? That’s part of what my job will be in writing the updated version.
I’ll also do something I wasn’t able to do in 1994 when I was first writing the book – I’ll seek out interviews with a host of Madonna consorts and collaborators, and if my Kickstarter is a success, I should be able to release many unpublished photos, too.
I would like to invite Madonna’s fans to support this project, which in turn supports Madonna: There’s only one queen, and the world needs reminding!
Thank you, MadonnaTribe, and thank you to everyone who decides to make a pledge on Kickstarter. My goal will be to under promise and over deliver.
